movara stories: meet Audrey

15 years of showing up, building healthy habits and finding a community that feels like family.

Audrey Adams first came to Movara 15 years ago—and what started as one week has become an important part of her journey toward a healthier, more balanced life.

Audrey lives in Puyallup, Washington, and recently retired after 43 years of teaching, coaching and working as an athletic director. These days, she still substitutes in her former school district, tends to a garden that produces far too many tomatoes, spends time with her cat Bubbles and fuels what she calls an "actual addiction to Pilates."

In fact, she now takes five to six Pilates classes a week and teaches four to ten classes herself.

15 Years of Movara

When Audrey first arrived at Movara, she weighed 327 pounds, already down from a high of 357. She had little cardiovascular endurance, her body hurt and she knew she needed to make changes.

Over the years, Movara became a place she could return to for encouragement, accountability and connection.

"Movara has been a HUGE part of my journey to a healthy, balanced life. I've received encouragement, motivation, gentle but firm reminders, love, compassion and support that I am eternally grateful for."

And just as importantly, she says, "Movara has given me friends that are family around the world."

A Movara Moment She'll Never Forget

One of Audrey's most memorable accomplishments was reaching the top of Stop Sign for the first time.

Hiking guide Tom stayed by her side the entire way. When she finally made it to the top, she couldn't hold back the tears.

"I bawled like a baby. It was emotionally overwhelming. I couldn't believe I had done it."

It's a moment she still gets emotional thinking about today.

One Habit at a Time

At home, Audrey stays active with Pilates and a walking group, but one of her most important habits is surprisingly simple: journaling.

She writes down what she eats every day and has a group of friends who regularly check in and help keep one another accountable.

Her advice for anyone struggling with consistency?

"Pick one thing and do it until it becomes a habit."

Then find someone you trust who can help keep you accountable.

Audrey's story is a reminder that lasting change doesn't have to happen all at once. Start with one thing. Keep showing up. Let it become part of who you are.

And after 15 years, what does Audrey still look forward to most when she's coming back to Movara?

The people. The hikes. A little pampering. And, of course, not having to cook or clean.

We can't wait to welcome her back again.
