Meet Diane: Finding Strength, Confidence & Community at Movara

Sometimes the biggest transformations aren't just physical. They're about discovering what you're capable of, learning to prioritize yourself and finding a community that cheers you on along the way.

For longtime Movara guest and member Diane Stone, that's exactly what her journey has been about.

Making Herself a Priority

Diane is a Southern California native who retired in 2024 after 38 years with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. These days, she enjoys traveling, Dodger games, pickleball, Pilates and spending time with family, friends and her beloved dog, Olaf.

Diane first visited Movara in 2018 with a friend while navigating the grief of losing her mother. During that visit, a lecture helped her recognize an unhealthy coping habit and make a meaningful change.

Although she always wanted to return, work and life kept getting in the way.

After retiring, Diane decided it was finally time to put herself first. In July 2025, she booked three weeks at Movara—and hasn't looked back!

Since returning, Diane has spent an incredible 15 weeks at Movara, building strength, endurance, confidence and a whole new appreciation for herself.

From 1.5 Miles to the Top of Stop Sign!

When Diane returned in July 2025, she could barely hike 1.5 miles in Snow Canyon before needing to stop and rest.

Just a few months later, on her 64th birthday, she reached the top of the famous Stop Sign hike with two fellow guests cheering her on!

Another unforgettable moment came when she conquered Stair Mistress, a hike she had previously been too afraid to climb. With encouragement from hiking guide Kelsey and the Movara team, she made it to the top.

It was an emotional moment that reminded her just how far she'd come.

"I have learned that I can do things I always dreamed of doing. That I am capable and will never stop growing mentally and physically."

Bringing Movara Home

Between visits, Diane keeps her momentum going with Pilates, Orangetheory, strength training, pickleball and walking. She also meal preps healthier versions of her favorite recipes to make nutritious choices easier.

Her advice for anyone struggling to stay consistent?

"Take it slow and don't put pressure on yourself to change all bad habits at once. Focus on one thing and build on that. If you don't have an hour to work out, just do 20 minutes."

She also encourages everyone to incorporate resistance training into their routine.

More Than a Fitness Resort

While Diane loves the hiking, circuit classes, aqua aerobics and delicious meals (especially the salmon!), what keeps her coming back is the people.

"What I love the most is the Movara community and staff. To be with people of like minds who encourage each other warms my heart."

For Diane, sharing meals, building friendships and celebrating each other's victories have become just as meaningful as the physical progress.

Her story is a beautiful reminder that it's never too late to prioritize yourself, discover new strengths and keep growing.

Thank you, Diane, for being such an inspiring part of our Movara family!
