Many guests ask about supplements for their children. I usually tell them that they should speak with their doctor if they have concerns over specific nutrients. Individual supplement recommendations are individualized and have much to do with a child’s (or adult’s) health history, medication use, illnesses or conditions. But, in general, the best way to get your vitamins and minerals is from food.
Children can be picky eaters, which is why most parents are worried they aren’t getting what they need from food. This is a valid concern. As a parent, your responsibility is to provide healthy choices. Don’t give children the choice between carrots and french fries or cheerios and fruit loops. You know what they will choose. Instead provide healthy choices and let them decide what and how much they need. By doing this, you foster an intuitive eater and the child is able to eat what he or she needs.
