I was sent this article the other day and thought I would post it here. I think it does a good job of warning you of a new diet trap…detox. The term is being used in the place of dieting, since dieting has such a negative connotation. But detox, that means you are doing something good for yourself, right? Not so much.
Basically a detox is a starvation diet. It is never considered healthy to go without food or drink. Our bodies can handle detoxification given the proper nutrition (fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins). We need to give our bodies more credit than we do, they are AMAZING! Our bodies function under homeostasis, or the ability to regulate and maintain a stable constant condition.
I encourage you to read the article in it’s entirety. It exposes detox diets for what they are.
