52 Peaks Climbs The Mountain of the Gods: Mt. Olympus in Greece!

Have you been following Tami Luckie and TJ Jerome on their journey across the globe to climb 52 Peaks in 52 Weeks? Tami and TJ are past Movara guests and they have been to some of the most amazing places all over the world. Recently, they shared with us their latest adventure in Greece:

52 Peaks had quite the adventure in Greece. First stop was Athens for a couple of days of sightseeing and resting. Getting to Mt. Olympus (about 5 hours north of Athens) turned into a challenge. Trains and buses were going on and off strike, so we rented a car and navigated the roads to the trailhead. We did a two day hike to the top of Mytikas Peak which is the highest peak on Mt. Olympus (and also in Greece). Getting to the top of Mytikas was a true rock climb, definitely scary, and a whole lot of fun. Mt. Olympus was Peak #8 for TJ and #7 for Tami.  We were joined on our hike by a dog we fell in love with that we named Zeus. We also met Nancy who came to Greece on her own to celebrate her 68th Birthday by hiking Olympus. She said she didn’t know anyone else crazy enough to do it! Check out the great photo gallery on the website and the video clips we have posted to Facebook on 52 Peaks!

Several friends contacted us while we were in Greece and told us we had to go to the Greek Island of Santorini. There was such an outpouring of love for this island that we spontaneously decided to get on a flight and spend our last two days in Greece in Santorini. We were well rewarded as it was indeed a magical place. Tami rented a four-wheeler and drove all around the island and bagged Peak #8 – Profitas Ilias – the highest peak in Santorini. Tami also found this great sign while visiting the black beaches! Check out the photo gallery!

As always, check out the website for new blogs about our peaks and adventures!

The next peak is a big one: Mt. Elbrus in Russia. This peak will be another mountaineering climb over snow and glaciers and will take multiple days. Mt. Elbrus is the highest point in continental Europe which makes it one of the Seven Summits.

The next book club choice is also on the website: Anna KareninaThis book is one of Tami’s all-time favorites. Written by the great Russian author Leo Tolstoy, many consider this to be the greatest novel ever written.

Don’t forget that TJ Hiker has some great trips coming up.
